New Atlantis is a book written by Francis Bacon in 1627. The book describes a society whose aim is to gain knowledge of the causes and hidden powers of all things and to extend man's power over nature. The society has discovered various ways to receive light from various bodies, reproduce the heat of the sun and other heavenly bodies, and subject meat to processing without damaging its freshness. They also have vast rooms where they artificially evoke and show various natural phenomena.
